My Feel Good Song

Do you ever have a feel good song?  Like when you're down and you need cheering up, hearing a particular song would make you feel a little better?

Ever since I heard the cover version of  "I'm Glad You Came", I decided to make it my officially feel good song for now.

I would feel light and bubbly (like champagne!).   It gives me this happy feeling inside and makes me think only of good things.

So, what is your "feel good song"?

Our Company Outing At Shangrila

Last weekend, we had our company get together at Shangrila Mactan.  We were booked for a 2 night stay at the resort, thanks to our CEO it was an all expense paid outing!

It was an unforgettable weekend of fun, food, a couple of drinks and laughter!

I actually stayed for one night because I started missing the kids.  But it was worth it, the place was really beautiful.

The rooms were big and cozy!  I loved the sheets, they were so comfy you would just want to lay in bed the whole day and snuggle in!

The breakfast buffet was my favorite!  I usually skip breakfast, but not this time...

The resort had a couple of pools you could swim in.  This one was my favorite, the family pool area.  I am sure my kids would love it here, and I'm saving up so I could bring them hopefully soon!

I love the beach!  Too bad I was not able to swim because of a monthly visitor, but that did not stop me from getting my feet wet!

I could go on and on about how awesome the place was, but I guess what made the weekend really fun and special, were the people I was with, my friends and work mates.  I spend 8 or more hours each day with them at work, and if these guys work hard, they sure know how to party hard and have a good time!

A big shout out to our CEO who went out of his way to let us enjoy the weekend, and made us feel appreciated!

For the Love of Running

I love to run.  Before you get any false impressions, I'm not really a good runner.  I just run at my own pace and I think that is good enough.

Running teaches me to push myself to the limits and seeing how far I can go.  There are times when I feel tired and I just want to stop, but there is this voice inside me telling me to go forward.

Running gives me that feeling of being carefree.  When I run, I don't think about anything, I just enjoy the feel of the wind on my face and take in all the beauty around me.

Sometimes, running is my form of escape, or I run when I need to burn up calories from over eating, but most times I run simply because I love to.

Sadly, I have not been able to join fun runs and marathons lately,  the last time I joined was around February of this year.  Although I can run at Abellana or I.T park whenever I want to, joining fun runs is more exciting for me!  I miss those kinds of events and I look forward to going back soon.

Our Dong Juan Burger Experience

If there's one thing I love to do, I guess that would be EATING!  Unfortunately I'm not one of those chosen few who could eat guilt-free without putting on any weight!  But that won't stop me from enjoying a good burger when I see one!

With all the fuzz around about Army Navy Burgers, I was told that Dong Juan also had the best burgers in town.  Since my husband had been there before and he said that the burgers were good, I decided to satisfy my taste buds.

We chose the Dong Juan at One Mango Place since it was more accessible.  The place was small but cozy, I think it could seat around 20 to 30 persons max, but they also had tables and chairs outside.  Aside from burgers, they also offered pizza, sisig, crispy pata and burger steak.  For our meal, we ordered a mushroom cheese burger, bacon burger and mozzarella sticks.  Andre as always was a regular yum with cheese guy so we had to drive through Jollibee before heading out to Dong Juan, good thing they allowed us to bring food bought outside!

The burgers were so huge!  I had to press it firmly so I could take a bite.  I loved their burger patty, it was juicy and it had a distinct flavor that would have you come back for more!  The mozzarella stick was a joy to eat!  The price range I guess were reasonable considering the size of the burgers they were serving.

Simply said, I think that I would be going back to try out their other dish.  I wanted to see if I could handle their red hot chili burger.  For burger lovers, Dong Juan is a must try.

The Masks We Wear

You seem to be happy.  I see you smile each day, but I know behind those smiles are silent cries and tears waiting to flow.

You appear tough.  You always have that stern look on your face, but I know behind that strong front is a person who is afraid to get hurt.

You appear to be concerned and would wish someone well.  But behind those hugs and friendly exchanges is a plot to pull the person down.

I realized that sometimes people wear masks for different reasons.

You put on a happy mask so those around you won't see that you're suffering from the inside.  You put on a mask to appear strong so others won't see that you also have a weakness.  But I guess what's scary is when people put on a mask to  pretend to be someone they are not.

When you put on a mask, you are not just fooling the people around you, you are also lying to yourself.  Don't be afraid to show who you really are and how you feel.  Those who truly love you would accept you for what you are.

For those who hide behind masks to deceive others, stop and think about what you are doing.  Whatever reason you have would never justify the fact that you may be ruining peoples lives.

Take off that mask before it starts to ruin you.  Stop hiding behind those masks, face whatever life has thrown at you, and don't be afraid to let the people around you help you up.  Remember that you are never alone.  You don't need to put on a mask because someone out there loves you for being YOU.

“We all wear masks, and the time comes when we cannot remove them without removing some of our own skin.”

No-Cook Pastillas

The big jar with filled with milk candies wrapped in bright yellow plastic caught my kids attention while we were lining up at the cashier in a convenience store.  Andre was the first to ask me if I could buy one for him.  He specifically said, "Mommy, just one for me and one for Micah too." But I bought 5 pastillas just in case they wanted more, and I was surprised that each costs 5 pesos.  A bit expensive considering that they were shaped into tiny balls, the size of those colored bubble gums you see in sari-sari stores.

So I decided to make my own no-cook pastillas.  It is simple and the recipes you would find in your own kitchen.  All you need are the following:

- 2 cups powdered milk (I used Nido for this recipe)
- 1 small can condensed milk
- Sugar for coating

How to make your own pastillas:

- Blend the first two ingredients (powdered milk and condensed milk).  Mix them well until smooth.
- Set aside for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Shape them into balls or logs and coat with sugar.
- You may wrap them in plastic cellophane if you like.

If you have kids, you can ask them to help you coat the pastillas in sugar or they can do the wrapping, it would be a good bonding activity.  The mixing part would be reserved for adults  because once you combine the ingredients, it becomes too sticky and hard to mix.  A good upper arm work out though!
My kids were excited to share the pastillas, Andre even told his playmates that his mommy was making candies!  Try  out this simple recipe and enjoy a yummy milky treat!

My Little Best Friend

This photo makes me smile, because it reminds me of that rainy afternoon when Micah and I were playing around with the app I downloaded and we were trying out different hairstyles that would match our photos.  It was actually her idea that we have matching curly hair I must admit, my daughter looked better than me!

Micah and I are best friends, that by the way is according to her!  We talk about anything under the sun, she asks me endless questions and whenever she comes home from school, she has stories about her classmates and teachers and narrates everything she did that day.

My daughter has been my constant date because she always tags around whenever I go out to shop for stuff and groceries.  We still have our ice cream dates together.  I love the way that she makes me laugh when she tries to be funny with her antics!  I just hope that when she gets older, she would still consider me her best friend and never keep secrets from me.

While I was making this post, she again saw this photo and burst into giggles.  I could not help but laugh with her as well.  I love you Micah.  Thank you for making mommy feel that I have someone who would always be on my side no matter what.

The Good Life

What is a good life?  Is it living luxuriously, travelling around the world, shopping till you drop and partying all night long?

Not exactly. I want to share with you a post I read about the good life.

A good life is when you assume nothing, expect little.
Do more, need less.  Smile often. Dream big
Laugh a lot.  Pray always.
Cry once in a while and realize
how blessed you are for what you have.

I hope and pray that you get the good life you deserve.  Learn to appreciate whatever it is that you have, try to find the good in everything, and be a blessing to others.

Hello September!

September officially marks the start of the "Ber" months, which means Christmas is just around the corner.  I am excited about the holiday season coming up, but September also gives me enough reasons to be as ecstatic because of so many things to look forward to.

First on the list is that we are moving to a bigger office!  I love the old office because it had a cozy feel into it, but with the company expanding it's time to move to a bigger location to accommodate all the new amazing people joining the team.  Another thing is that our CEO would be visiting us and there have been plans of a company outing at a fancy resort once he is here, I can't wait!

This month, I am also very much excited to meet up with good friends I have not seen for a while.  My friends from my old workplace and I are planning on an "Army Navy" date, I already marked it on my calendar and that would be on the 15th.  My "soul friend" Mela and I are also planning to meet and chat on a weekend that would work for us both, we'll figure out the date but definitely pushing through.  My best friend (Sandee) is visiting the Philippines on the 6th, too bad I won't be able to meet up with her.  Another friend (Anne) who was my Intern at Makati Medical Center during my medical clerkship is visiting Cebu with her husband to attend a conference, and hopefully once schedule permits we're planning to meet over coffee.  And September 17th is the birthday of a dear friend, Happy Birthday Apple!!

September has me looking forward to so many wonderful and exciting events, and I'm grateful that things are off to a good start.   I am praying that this month will also be good to you as well.  Be positive!

PS:  I am also looking forward to 2 new pair of Flipelas I ordered from my entrepreneur friend Cocaine. Yipee!
